I never knew my mother would clip little articles from the newspapers or magazines until one day while home for a visit I found some of them tucked in a book. My mother never made a scrapbook of my life, but instead she kept things safe in our encyclopedias. My first certificate from Sunday School, my report cards, Bible verses I had memorized were located in A-Z.

The thing that surprised me was that I did the same thing. So, as I read these I knew I was seeing a side of my mother I didn't know. I found we were alike. We both saved little verses that we wished we had written, or hairstyles we wish we looked like, or hopes for happier days when we found love. It made me smile and warmed my heart.
So, I found some of these little clips and thought I'd share them.
Everything in life has meaning. The bigger the fall, the greater the lesson.

"Barn's burnt down-
Now I can see the moon."
_Masahide(17th-century Japanese poet)

So, when life steps on you, and you make it through...

"One of the most valuable things we can do to heal one another
is listen to each other's stories."
Rebecca Falls

I find my blogging friends do that very thing....

Then, from my Blessings Journal that I started writing in after being diagnosed with Protein S Deficiency...

"One ought , everyday at least, to hear a little song,
read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible,
to speak a few reasonable words."
Goethe

My favorite is the one I saw in my doctor's office...

"Hope is the thing with feathers..
That perches on the soul
And sings the tune
Without the words
And never stops at all..."
Emily Dickinson

just a few of my thoughts I have cut and saved....just like my mama did...

Most refreshing and thank you for sharing. At our house I would sometimes find articles tucked away here and there.

Beverly I do the same thing. I find them in books, baskets and a box I keep for special cards and pictures.

It's so sweet that you found a commonality with your mother. We all have similar traits with our mothers, but often overlook them.

I love Emily Dickenson's poem.

Awww - those are so sweet. Thanks for sharing. Isn't it nice to see your mother from where you are now? Meaning, instead of a child's perspective? I find as the days go by, I understand my mom more and more.
I am glad you found those little jewels.

I have wee cuttings stored all over - was going to scan them - maybe they deserve to be found someday.

My mother clipped things also. I just found an envelope of clippings in some of her things.

Dickinson's words are some of my favorites.
