Historical Halloween 2009

Each year Max's school, The Maria Montessori School presents Historical Halloween. The students pick a historical person, dress up like them, and invite us all down to the beautiful harbor to see our children shine. Max was the explorer Alfred Wegener. it was a beautiful day, the sun shining down on us. Max stayed in costume the whole time with his coat and wool cap, ever the trooper. I love going to my grandkid's school pdrograms. It makes me very happy......

Fall Break 2009

This fall break has been a whirlwind. What with Karen's wreck, planning outings for Lily, and work, I find my mind and body needing a "mental" break...not that I could ever forget everything...but, today has been a day of rest. Letting my mind just be in idle.
Fall break is the two week break that Lily has at the Campus School. She is out of school for two weeks, but, Mama and Forrest are not. Lucky for Meemaw and me. We had girl time. She loves to have alone time with just the two of us. No outside interference from boys while we play dolls, draw, put on make-up, so on and so forth. I had planned on a visit to several outdoor activities on our time together in the beautiful fall weather here in Memphis. The only problem was that fall seemed to forget us this year. We went from summer heat to RAIN. I did decide one day to just put on rain gear and go for it. Off we went to the Memphis Zoo to see the newly opened Teton Trek.
The baby bears were somewhat playful, but, were too far away for me. They had been very playful when my friend went...jumping in the water and such. The Old Faithful erupted right on time for us to see it in its full glory, but, it did some out of concrete instead of the earth as it does in real life....oh, well. You get a picture of it, only sideways. Since this is a day for my brain to rest, I am not even going to try and correct it....it also drives me crazy when the first picture I want to show ends up being the last one in the post. Oh, well another day....

Happy Days

Karen is off the vent, in room air. She passed her swallow test, so she can now have ice chips....and Di*t Coke, and more important, no more nasogastric tube! !!! Yoo Hoo!!! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. You are wonderful friends.

My neice is doing so much better. She has a trach, and is weaning from the ventilator. She is awake, trying to talk, and joking. She said she is lucky and blessed. That is so true. Thank you all for your prayers and comments....I feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief.

My Niece

I have not been able to post anything this past week. My nephew's wife, my niece, was in a one car auto accident. She remains in the Trauma ICU. It is going on six days and she remains quite critical. I will update more. I just wanted everyone to remember her in your thoughts and prayers. I am hopeful for a speedy recovery.

Shelby

This little girl is Shelby. She is a miniature Dachshund. She came into my life at a time that I needed a little friend to love. She weighed one pound five ounces. She was so tiny that we would step on her, slam the screen on her, and such things like this, and man would she yelp. We would have to love on her and promise never to do it anymore. Poor girl. We should have learned, but, we didn't. A golden retriever stepped on her, and she ended up with a bulging disc. Weinie dogs are known to have a bad back. I did not know she would end up with four back surgeries. She has had some terrible moments with them, but, this little stinker is a survivor. She is still running, digging, and loves to play with her little Halloween orange ball. In fact, she can wear me out with her begging to play. She will run get her ball and drop it at my feet. Plop...that means get up and play or you will not have a moments rest. You would never know she will be 12 years old the day after Christmas.
