The Flood and Booker T. Washington

This is the picture I posted last week of the school there in the Mississippi River....well, the Harbor actually....The back of the school was sandbagged. Just in case.....

Well, just in case happened! Here is what it is like now. The river has crested at just under 48 feet. That is just short of the record set back in 1927 I think....This pic is a copy of one by Jamie Harmon....

There is some good news here in Memphis town.... President Obama selected Booker T. Washington High School to speak at their graduation! They participated in a contest with other high schools and made it to the top three. Then the President choose them. They have worked hard the past few years and I am very proud of them. The percentage of seniors graduating went from 55% to over 80%....Now, their hard work is being rewarded....

Hi Beverly,
What a great story about the Booker T Washington school!
Hope you are all safe and that the water is on the way down.
Sounds bad for those down river. What a wild Spring everywhere.
We've had a cyclone hovering off our coast for 3 days now and it has been crazy windy and stormy even though the storm is 280+ miles away.
The water will give the hydrangeas beauty.
Take care.....oh, and congrats to Max on becoming 10. Time is flying.

I am so sorry about all this flooding. Having lived through a flooded house I know all the mess is still yet to be found and things will not return to normal for at least a year.

It appears that my comment on this post never made it. Must have been a blogger glitch. I sit open-mouthed as I see the news and realize that global climate change is never going to stop and this flooding will be more common in years to come.
